Seeking Talented Volunteer Marketing Manager
The Writers Conference of Northern Appalachia Inc. (WCoNA) and the “Northern Appalachia Review,” Seek a Marketing Manager.
The Writers Conference of Northern Appalachia Inc. (WCoNA), an annual writers conference and workshop, along with the “Northern Appalachia Review,” the premier literary journal dedicated to the writing of northern Appalachia, seeks a marketing manager. This is a volunteer position; the chosen candidate takes on a key role as a decision maker with two recognized and growing leaders in literary advocacy. More importantly, the role greatly contributes to the growth of an increasingly recognized and respected regional literature.
The WCoNA marketing manager promotes the brand and services of the conference and literary review. The successful candidate develops marketing strategies, generates new business leads, and oversees marketing activities. The marketing manager also manages the database and marketing budget.
The marketing manager can expect to dedicate approximately five to six hours a week, including attending a biweekly (weekly heading into the conference) one hour video conference call on Tuesday evenings, and a monthly meeting for the literary review.
Responsibilities include
Developing strategies to gain conference presenters, sponsors, and attendees.
Growing, organizing, and maintaining the organizations’ databases.
Boosting submissions and readership for the Northern Appalachia Review.
Increasing brand awareness.
Ensuring alignment of communications and messaging across all channels.
Developing and managing the marketing budget.
Overseeing branding, advertising, and promotional campaigns, including occasional email blasts, traditional advertisements, and virtual promotions.
Updating and maintaining the organizations’ websites and social media presence.
Keeping the organizations’ websites current and relevant with engaging content.
Seeking sponsorship relationships.
Assisting in grant seeking and writing.
Marketing Manager Requirements:
Experience or a bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, or similar.
Proficiency in web development.
Proficiency with online marketing and social media strategy
Knowledge of marketing strategies, channels, and branding.
Basic understanding of design concepts.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Superb collaboration abilities.
Strong time management and organizational abilities.
Attend the annual conference, held in northern Appalachia (2023 conference will take place in metropolitan Pittsburgh; the marketing manager is not required to attend the 2023 workshop, which will take place in northwestern Pennsylvania).
The marketing manager reports directly to the president and editor-in-chief.
